Unredeemed

This song from Selah's latest album has reduced me to tears more than once this week.  Not a sweet, silent sort of crying, but the awkward, blubbering kind.

The cruelest word
The coldest heart
The deepest wound
The endless dark
The lonely ache
The burning tears
The bitter nights
The wasted years

Life breaks and falls apart
But we know these are…

Places
Where grace is
Soon to be so amazing
They may be unfulfilled
They may be unrestored
But when anything that’s shattered
Is laid before the Lord
Just watch and see
It will not be
Unredeemed

For every choice
That led to shame
And all the love
That never came
For every vow
That someone broke
And every life
That gave up hope

We live in the shadow of the fall
But the cross says these are all...

Places
Where grace is
Soon to be so amazing
They may be unfulfilled
They may be unrestored
But when anything that’s shattered
Is laid before the Lord
Just watch and see
It will not be
Unredeemed

Places
Where grace is
Soon to be so amazing
They may be unfulfilled
They may be unrestored
But you never know the miracle
The Father has in store
Just watch and see
It will not be
Unredeemed

The tears are twofold.  This song reminds me of the still-broken places and hurts in my life that I long to be redeemed.  But I also cry joy tears when I recognize all of the ways in which I have already--and abundantly--experienced God's amazing grace and redemption, especially over the past four years.

It's true.  When shattered things are laid at the feet of Jesus, they do not go unredeemed.  There may be a season of waiting and trusting, but He is faithful.

Just watch and see.

I have, and I will.

Understand, therefore, that the LORD your God is indeed God.
He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations
and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands.
Deuteronomy 7:9 (NLT)
